Every episode of Unseen Hands starts with someone willing to talk. Maybe you grew up in Manayunk and remember the families who lived down the block. Maybe you’re a descendant piecing together your own history. Maybe you just have one story that’s been sitting with you for years, waiting for the right place to land.

We’ll follow up to talk through what an interview looks like, what to expect, and how your story will be used. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out before you reach out. We’ll help you shape it.

Photos with no names written on the back. A letter tucked in a drawer for decades. A church bulletin, a pay stub, a newspaper clipping. These pieces matter more than people think, and they’re often the first thread that leads to a bigger story.

Submit whatever you have, in whatever shape it’s in. We’ll digitize it, credit you as the contributor, and use it to help fill in the picture of Black life in Manayunk. If it comes with a story attached, even better. If it doesn’t, we may be able to help you find one.

Not every story needs an interview or a photo. Sometimes it’s just a name you remember, a street corner, a family that used to live down the block, something an elder mentioned once that stuck with you. This is the easy, low-pressure way to pass that along.

Members are the heartbeat of this project. When you join, you get early access to new podcast episodes, first notice of story circles and community events, and updates on how the archive is growing. More than that, you become part of a community actively working to make sure this history doesn’t disappear.

Membership is free to join. As Black Manayunk grows, we’ll be adding more ways for members to get involved, from volunteering on research to helping plan events.
