Manayunk’s history has always been told through its mills, its rowhomes, and its Main Street. Rarely told is who the Black laborers and families were who helped build it, worked in it, and called it home.

Official records tell part of the story: census data, mill payrolls, church histories. But look closely, and the gaps are everywhere. Names left out. Faces left uncredited. A neighborhood’s history missing an entire community that shaped it.
